Primary Purpose

Monitor and oversee the visitors coming into the Garland ISD Transportation Department office.  Answer and direct calls to appropriate staff.  Perform secretarial duties in support of office staff.

Education Certification


High School diploma or GED


Certified Education Office Personnel (CEOP)


Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of MS Office applications

Knowledge of district boundaries

Strong organizational and general clerical skills



Minimum three (3) years clerical, receptionist, or secretarial experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Receive incoming phone calls.  Answer basic questions about school bus service eligibility, and look up student assigned route information.
  • Direct phone calls to appropriate staff; log calls requiring further action into the Incident Management System (IMS) and assign responsibility to appropriate office staff.
  • Enter visitor information into Raptor database for security check.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Monitor the front door, greet and direct visitors accordingly.
  • Display professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Alert Office Manager or other department leadership of potential security threats.
  • Exert a positive influence and work in harmony with associates.
  • Respond to suggestions for improvement in a positive manner.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Must be mentally alert and physical able to perform job functions.
  • Follow district policies pertaining to the individual assignment.
  • Seek professional growth through continuing education and staff development.
  • Demonstrate efficient and accurate work.
