Primary Purpose

Oversee all Grounds Maintenance Operations and budgets, including mowing, landscaping, irrigation, athletics, herbicide/pest control, fertilizing, playground/fence, concrete, welding, equipment repairs, and inventory. The manager must be able to oversee contractors and obtain quotes.  Involved with the day-to-day strategic planning and monitoring of department budget.

Education Certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance and landscaping of outdoor areas and facilities with a Bachelor’s degree OR 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in maintenance and landscaping of outdoor areas and facilities with a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of carpentry, flooring, painting, cabinet making, ceramic tile installation, roofing, glass installation, locksmith, and General Maintenance of building systems.
  • Good written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance and landscaping of outdoor areas and facilities with a Bachelor’s degree OR 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in maintenance and landscaping of outdoor areas and facilities with a High School diploma or equivalent

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Must have Knowledge of SPSC guidelines and ASTM standards.
  2. Knowledge of operation of Heavy Equipment.
  3. Knowledge of city codes and permit requirements.
  4. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  5. Should be able to work and learn from others.
  6. Ability to manage a large staff, including hiring and reprimanding.
  7. Ability to train employees and staff in each area overseen.
  8. Ability to follow directions.
  9. Ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced workloads.
  10. Ability to get along with others.
  11. Ability to complete the task promptly.
  12. Willing to complete other duties as assigned.
  13. Organizes, trains, leads, schedules, and supervises Grounds crew and employees.
  14. Submits Purchase Requisitions by established Grounds department schedules to ensure ready availability of materials, supplies, and equipment required.
  15. Responsible for coordination of special events and projects with internal departments and contractors.
  16. Determine and monitor stock inventory levels, which pertain to the Groundskeeping and irrigation supplies.
  17. Maintain and submit reports of all person-hours and materials utilized in performing Grounds operations
  18. Monitor and evaluate the PM mowing schedules and repair all grounds capital equipment.
  19. Emergency response on-call manager 24-7 and 1st responder
  20. Will perform duties as the interim Assistance Director in the absence of his direct supervisor 
  21. Perform all duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the activities of the Grounds personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used

Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard cleaning tools and equipment; standard yard maintenance equipment, may use small hand tools and power tools; light truck or van.

Posture

Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Motion

Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; regular walking, climbing ladders and scaffolding; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; everyday driving

Lifting

Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over).

Environment

Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
