The District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) committee works to improve student learning in Garland ISD. This committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Superintendent and School Board. Additional responsibilities include:
- reviewing student achievement data
- approving the district's staff development calendar
- hearing requests for campus/district waivers following state guidelines
- hearing updates on programs and other items of educational interest
Membership
Being a part of the DEIC is a yearly commitment. Recruitment occurs each year at the beginning of the school year.
Garland ISD actively recruits* parent, community and business representatives to serve on the DEIC each year. DEIC parent, community and business representatives are selected so that there is diversity of geographic location, gender, and race/ethnicity. The DEIC is made up of a variety of Garland ISD stakeholders:
- 3 parent representatives (Has at least one child attending GISD, one per level - elementary, middle, and high)
- 3 community representatives (non-parents, one per city, lives in the district)
- 3 business representatives (operates a business within the district, one per city)
- 31 classroom teacher representatives (15 elementary, 9 middle school, 6 high school and 1 non-traditional campus)
- 3 campus-based non-teaching professional representatives (1 elementary, 1 middle school, and 1 high school level)
- 2 district-level non-teaching professional staff representatives

Interested in joining the DEIC?
Those who want to be considered for DEIC membership should complete the DEIC Interest Form. The DEIC Interest Form will be available each August at the beginning of the school year.
In accordance with Board Policy BQA(LOCAL), Garland ISD actively recruits parent, community, and business representatives to serve on DEIC. To ensure adequate representation of our community’s diversity, DEIC parent, community, and business representatives will be selected so that there is diversity of geographic location, gender, and race/ethnicity.
