DEIC Public District of Innovation Amendment Review
During a public meeting on Feb. 22, the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) committee will be reviewing and providing feedback on a proposed amendment to the GISD District of Innovation plan.
The District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) committee works to improve student learning in Garland ISD. This committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Superintendent and School Board. Additional responsibilities include:
- reviewing student achievement data
- approving the district's staff development calendar
- hearing requests for campus/district waivers following state guidelines
- hearing updates on programs and other items of educational interest
The DEIC is made up of a variety of Garland ISD stakeholders:
- 3 parent representatives
- 3 community members (non-parents)
- 3 business representatives
- 1 classroom teacher from every campus
- 12 campus-based non-teaching professionals (6 elementary, 3 middle school, and 3 high school level)
- 4 district-level non-teaching professional staff
- 2 paraprofessionals
