Emergency Procedures
Learn about our processes for handling emergency situations.
On this page
Emergencies can include a nearby gas leak, offsite relocation, power or water outage, weather or any other issue that puts students and staff safety at risk.
Whenever there is an issue or if we need students to be picked up, we will notify parents using:
- Skylert (calls, emails and texts)
- Twitter (@gisdnews)
- Facebook (@ChooseGarlandISD)
- Our websites
It is important that your information is up to date in our system so that you will receive these messages. Visit the Skyward Help page for more information.

Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
Students and employees are trained to perform the follow actions during an emergency.
- Hold
- Secure
- Lockdown
- Evacuate
- Shelter
See the Standard Response Protocol page for details about each of these actions.
Emergency Student Pick-up Procedures
Circumstances may occur at the school that require parents to pick up their students in a formalized, controlled release. This process is called a Reunification and may be necessary due to weather, a power outage, hazmat or if a crisis occurs at the school. The Standard Reunification Method is a protocol that makes this process more predictable and less chaotic for all involved.
