Proposition B includes multi-program activity centers at all high school campuses for a total cost of $135,910,000.
These indoor multi-program activity centers will provide a large area to be used by all high school students for various academic, fine arts and athletic activities.
The enclosed facility with ventilation fans and heaters will provide protection from outdoor elements year-round. It will also provide a safe environment for students and staff to gather during evacuation and other security alerts.
Each facility will be large enough to hold marching band practice and will include:
- 80-yard indoor field with turf area striped for various athletic programs
- one end zone and safety zones around the striped areas
- padded perimeter walls, high ceilings, activity separation netting and multi-purpose drop-down netting
- designated band storage adjacent to field
What will I see on my ballot?
The projects shown above will be listed as Proposition B on your ballot. See the wording below as it will appear on the ballot.
Voters will be asked to vote FOR or AGAINST the issuance of $135,910,000 in bonds for the purposes of designing, constructing, renovating, improving, upgrading, updating, acquiring, and equipping a multi-program activity center at each high school campus. The ballot will also state the imposition of a tax sufficient to pay the principal of, and interest on, the bonds. This refers to the district’s I&S rate, and Garland ISD can afford to pay for these bonds at the current rate.
THE ISSUANCE OF $135,910,000 OF BONDS BY THE GARLAND INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR A MULTI-PROGRAM ACTIVITY CENTER AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS, AND THE IMPOSITION OF A TAX SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS AND THE COST OF ANY CREDIT AGREEMENTS. THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.
