G/T Awareness Week
Did you know? There are over 453,689+ identified Gifted/Talented (G/T) students in Texas and 4,500+ in Garland ISD.
Gifted/Talented (G/T) Awareness Week was created to increase awareness and encourage support of gifted education in Texas. The week is designated to encourage educators and advocates to celebrate advanced and gifted learners, to strengthen understanding, and to highlight the need for specialized instruction that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional development.
More about G/T Awareness Week
Although celebrated in previous years in most districts, the Texas Legislature passed House Current Resolution 64 (HCR 64) during the 2025 legislative session to sanction the recognition across the state. This resolution officially designates the first full week of April as Gifted and Talented Awareness Week in Texas for the next ten years!
To help recognize and encourage the support of gifted students, we invite our community to spread the word during G/T Awareness Week as well as the entire month of April.
Get involved
Need ideas on how to participate? You can:
- Write a letter of appreciation to a G/T Educator
- Attend a parent webinar
- Participate in various district and campus activities to recognize the importance of supporting advanced learners
GISD will spotlight multiple G/T students in our district by allowing them to share their G/T stories. Check out this video clip of Jasmine John, 2025 Garland High School Class Valedictorian and TAGT scholarship recipient, discussing the impact of her G/T learning experiences in GISD:
