GISD Board calls for Nov. Prop A election

If passed, Proposition A is projected to provide about $56 million in additional funds annually for teacher and staff salaries, student programs, specialized education services and safety and security.

The Garland Independent School District (GISD) Business and Organization Partners Program is designed to cultivate purposeful school-community partnerships that enrich educational experiences, support student and staff well-being, and strengthen the broader Garland community. This initiative promotes meaningful collaboration between school leaders and community organizations to address academic, wellness, and resource needs while enhancing the overall effectiveness of school-based services.

At the heart of the program is a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration and positive impact.

Partner commitments

The Garland Independent School District (GISD) Business and Organization Partners Program is designed to build strong, purposeful partnerships between schools and the community to enhance education, support student and staff well-being, and contribute to the overall strength of the Garland area.

This initiative encourages local businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups to work directly with school leaders to address academic needs, promote wellness, and expand access to valuable resources. By fostering meaningful collaboration, the program helps ensure that schools are better equipped to serve students and families while deepening community engagement. At the core of this effort is a shared commitment to lasting relationships and positive outcomes, guided by clearly defined expectations and responsibilities that support trust, impact, and sustainability.

How it works

Partners work collaboratively with the Family and Community Engagement Department to identify the campus or department that best aligns with their goals and desired outcomes. Some partners choose to support specific campuses based on factors such as location, student demographics, or community needs. Because every partnership is unique, each one is thoughtfully designed, regularly evaluated, and adjusted as needed to ensure it meets the evolving needs of both the partner and the school or department. This customized approach ensures that all collaborations are meaningful, effective, and mutually beneficial.

Campus or department partnership

Partners are invited to meet virtually to share information about their organization and goals in a collaborative conversation to explore potential alignment and determine if the partnership is a good mutual fit.

  • Begin MOU process with the organization
  • Partnership with specific campus(es) or department formalized

Why it matters

Community partnerships with businesses and organizations are vital to the success and growth of Garland ISD. These collaborations extend the reach of our schools by bringing in valuable resources, services, and expertise that enhance the educational experience for students and staff alike. When schools and community partners work together, students gain access to new learning opportunities, mentorship, and support systems that help them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

These partnerships also allow local organizations to invest meaningfully in the future of the community. By aligning their missions with educational goals, businesses and nonprofits can contribute to student achievement, workforce readiness, and overall well-being. Whether through sponsoring events, providing supplies, offering internships, or engaging in career awareness activities, partners help close gaps in access and opportunity while reinforcing the idea that education is a shared community responsibility.

Beyond tangible resources, these partnerships foster a deep sense of belonging and support across the district. When students see community members showing up for them, it builds trust, motivation, and pride in their school experience. Staff members benefit from increased morale and encouragement, knowing they have the backing of a broader network. This shared commitment strengthens relationships, builds school spirit, and reinforces a culture of collaboration across Garland ISD.

Ultimately, community partnerships are a powerful force for positive change. They help schools remain connected to the evolving needs of families and the local economy while promoting innovation and inclusivity. By working hand-in-hand with businesses and organizations, Garland ISD ensures that students are not only prepared academically, but also supported socially, emotionally, and professionally as they grow into future leaders of the community.
