Our theatre students compete with Texas schools through UIL for both One-Act Plays and Theatrical Design.

  • One-Act Play is a type of production that only has one act instead of several.
  • Theatrical Design is the technical creation and design of a performance (involving costuming, makeup, set design, and more).

The annual UIL One-Act Play contest is the largest high school play production contest in the world. All of the GISD High Schools compete each Spring at the Zone level. Six schools move onto the district level, and then three to Bi-District.

Middle school theatre students also have the opportunity to compete in the Middle School One-Act Play contest.
