Our Future is Public

Garland ISD is excited to see its families and leaders highlighted in the Texas Association of School Boards’ (TASB) new Our Future is Public campaign. The inspiring video showcases real-life stories of students and families who thrive in Texas public schools, including one of our own, Liberty Grove Elementary, and former GISD Board President Robert Selders Jr.

In the video, Selders shares his passion for the life-changing impact of education. “The future of Texas is developed within our classrooms with rigorous instruction, making sure that students have real-life experiences to help shape their learning environment," he says. “Education has the power to transform lives, and because of that, all students deserve to have access to an exceptional educational experience.”

Shadia Lee, a Liberty Grove parent, also reflects on the role public schools play in her family’s life. “Public schools take everybody, and they support all children, no matter their needs. I feel strongly about our public schools because they are the foundation of our society. [My daughter] loves coming to school.”

According to TASB, Our Future is Public was created to showcase the unmatched opportunities Texas public schools provide and the powerful role trustees, educators, and families play in shaping the state’s future. With 5.5 million students across 1,200 districts, Texas public schools prepare graduates to succeed in college, careers, or the military while offering families no-cost access to programs such as fine arts, athletics, dual credit, and industry certifications.

This spotlight from TASB reflects Garland ISD’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and equity. Following record gains in the 2025 TEA Accountability Ratings, the district continues to build momentum, ranking among the top districts in Dallas County and posting one of the highest College, Career, and Military Readiness rates in Texas. These results highlight what's possible when high expectations, strong community support, and dedicated educators come together to create extraordinary outcomes for students.

Stories like these reflect the strength of our community and reinforce that excellence is not a moment but a mindset. GISD remains unmatched in its pursuit of student success, innovation, and opportunity for all.
