GISD Board calls for Nov. Prop A election

If passed, Proposition A is projected to provide about $56 million in additional funds annually for teacher and staff salaries, student programs, specialized education services and safety and security.

Every student and family carries a story. For some, it begins with enrolling in a new school and finding their place in the district. For others, it continues with a second chance at graduation or the start of a new life in a new country. Those stories have outgrown the spaces they currently call home, and soon they’ll have a new one: a shared facility that brings Student Services and Memorial Pathway Academy together under one roof. Our animated rendering video offers a glimpse of how students and families will connect, learn, and grow in these modern spaces.

Imagine a family new to Garland ISD walking into the Manuel & Maria Valle Student Services Center. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, they’re greeted in a space designed to guide them through enrollment, transfers, and other questions about programs and support. Just across the outdoor commons area, a Memorial Pathway Academy student is finding her stride in a classroom that recognizes her unique journey. Whether she’s working toward graduation after taking time away or adjusting to life in a new country, she knows this school was built with her needs in mind.

District leaders recognized that the previous spaces could no longer meet the growing needs of these programs. The new facility will provide the Student Services team, which includes Family and Community Engagement, with the necessary room and resources to better serve families. At the same time, Memorial Pathway Academy will gain modern, flexible classrooms to support non-traditional and newcomer students. At the center of it all, a shared outdoor commons will encourage connection and community, reminding everyone that these two programs, while distinct, share the same goal: helping students flourish.

This project is one of many made possible by the 2023 Bond, an investment shaped by the community and designed to meet students where they are. By creating state-of-the-art spaces that match the evolving needs of students and families, Garland ISD is preparing not just for the future of education, but for the futures of the students it serves.
