GISD Board calls for Nov. Prop A election

If passed, Proposition A is projected to provide about $56 million in additional funds annually for teacher and staff salaries, student programs, specialized education services and safety and security. 

In order to provide educational opportunities for future generations of science scholars, we’re offering $35,000 in scholarship funding to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accredited college for the upcoming semester.*

Award information

One recipient will receive a $10,000 scholarship and five recipients will each receive a $5,000 scholarship. All scholarship award payments will be made directly to the college or university at which the recipient is enrolled.

Eligibility Requirements

(a) will be a legal resident of the 50 U.S. states or District of Columbia as of August 14, 2024. For the purposes of these official rules, a legal resident is a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident or an international student that has a valid student visa to study in the U.S. DACA recipients are not eligible;
(b) will be age 18 or older as of August 14, 2024;
(c) are pursuing an Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Students enrolled in certificate programs only are not eligible;
(d) are enrolled as a Student at an accredited U.S. college or university located in the 50 U.S. states or District of Columbia (see U.S. Dept. of Education Database at https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ for Fall 2024; and
(e) have a declared major of biology, chemistry, biochemistry or a related life science field. Students with a declared major outside of the life sciences but are pursuing a life science minor are not eligible.
