Dispel the stigma of mental illness and help prevent suicide through Be the Light Week.

Join your district and Guidance and Counseling in raising awareness about suicide prevention and in spreading the message that #YouMatter. #Together4MH #Bethelight

Be the Light Week is a part of Suicide Prevention Month.

Get involved

Participate in the conversation about mental health each day:

  • Sept. 5: You are not alone
Raise awareness about suicide prevention by posting on social media. #SuicidePrevention #YouMatter #Bethelight
  • Sept. 6: Shine a light on mental health
Wear neon or bright colors to show your support and reach out to someone to show you care.
  • Sept. 7: Learn the red flags
Wear red to represent the warning signs of suicide: talking about death, hopelessness, guilt, sleep issues, withdrawal, saying goodbye, and giving things away.
  • Sept. 8: Team up against suicide
Wear a team jersey to show you are on everyone's team. Later, attend Dak Prescott and Solomon Thomas' FB Live event through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Facebook.
  • Sept. 9: Build a pattern of caring
Get in the pattern of caring for your self and others! Wear polka dots, strips and zig-zag patterns. Also try self-care and be a friend to someone new.
  • Sept. 10: Be the light for World Suicide Prevention Day
Light a remembrance candle and talk to someone about mental health. Get involved in the World Suicide Prevention Day events in your community. #WSPD #YouMatter #Bethelight
