Breakfast Success Brings a Big Celebration to Daugherty Elementary
Daugherty Elementary wins big in the Breakfast in the Classroom Challenge and celebrates with a special guest.
Daugherty Elementary is starting the year with a celebration. The campus earned first place in the Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) Breakfast Challenge, a districtwide initiative to increase student breakfast participation. To celebrate the achievement, students and staff took part in a special assembly featuring a visit from Rowdy, the Dallas Cowboys mascot, and a $3,000 check presented by Dairy MAX and No Kid Hungry.
Students had a blast interacting with Rowdy, who danced with students and brought high energy to the celebration. Select students also participated in a short relay race that added even more excitement to the morning, and participants received special giveaways from Dairy MAX. Staff and students enjoyed a catered meal from Garland ISD Student Nutrition Services, making the event even more memorable. The win comes after a 27% increase in daily breakfast participation, the highest among 37 elementary campuses. The award includes $2,500 in campus funds and an additional $500 donation from No Kid Hungry, which will be used to support student needs and campus supplies.
GISD Student Nutrition Services partnered with Dairy MAX and No Kid Hungry, working together to ensure students start each school day with a healthy, balanced meal. Eating breakfast helps students stay focused, energized, and ready to learn, supporting both academic performance and overall well-being. By serving nutritious breakfasts that students enjoy, the team fuels learning and brings students and staff together to celebrate successes like this.
