Drivers traveling down Bunker Hill Road or along the President George Bush Turnpike have a striking new view on the horizon. Perched high on the hill, Sachse High School's brand-new Multi-Purpose Activity Center (MAC) stands as an unmistakable landmark, featuring prominent Mustang branding that signals campus pride to the entire community.

District leaders, city officials, state representatives, and community members gathered at the campus to officially cut the ribbon on the state-of-the-art facility, paving the way for students to step inside and begin using the space immediately.

The project represents a generational investment in the students, funded by local taxpayers who voted to support modern facilities for future generations.

"The community said, 'It's time for us to invest in our kids,'" said Superintendent Dr. Ricardo López during his remarks. "We want the world to know that when they see this facility, there's a legacy that children keep building generation after generation."

Inside, the MAC features a massive, full-length indoor turf field designed to shield students from unpredictable North Texas weather. The indoor space ensures uninterrupted, safe practice time during severe summer heat, sudden thunderstorms, or winter freezes.

"North Texas weather is unpredictable," Dr. López noted. "Now our students have safe places to practice. Where else is there a space for fine arts, athletics, and other programs to be together all the time? You're going to see all walks of life walking through these doors."

Dr. López also extended gratitude to the City of Sachse leadership and elected officials, emphasizing that the project was brought to life through genuine community collaboration.

School Board President Wes Johnson addressed the audience, praising the taxpayers and community members who backed the project to ensure students have top-tier resources.

"There is no facility nicer in North Texas in this class," Johnson said. "Everybody coming through knows that this is here for our kids and committed to their success. This building is going to be a much bigger, elevated experience."

Representatives from the construction and architectural teams also gave remarks during the event, sharing details about the design process and thanking the district for the opportunity to build a premier space for Sachse students.

Mustang athletic teams, fine arts groups, and student organizations will begin holding regular practices inside the new facility starting this week.

The Sachse HS MAC was made possible by Garland ISD voters, who approved the district's $1.279 billion 2023 Bond Program. Each of Garland ISD's seven high schools will receive a MAC, with several facilities now nearing the final stages of construction.
