The district is implementing a campus consolidation plan for the 2025-26 school year. Starting in the fall, students who have been at the Montclair Elementary campus on Broadmoor Drive will attend school at the Heather Glen Elementary campus at 5119 Heather Glen Drive.

As part of Bond 2023, a new replacement elementary campus will be built to replace the aging Montclair and Heather Glen buildings. Students from both schools will be housed at the Heather Glen location during the construction of the new building at the current Montclair location. During this time, the school will be named “Heather Glen Montclair Elementary."

Once the new building is complete, both the Heather Glen and Montclair names will be retired. The new building is expected to open in Fall 2027 and will be named "Linda L. Griffin Elementary School"  in honor of long-time GISD Board Trustee, Linda Griffin.

Culture and traditions

An essential part of this change is honoring the past while celebrating new opportunities and forming new combined campus cultures. Each campus has a unique and special history with achievements to be respected. District staff will collect Montclair artifacts such as trophies and plaques and move them to Heather Glen. Once the new building is complete, all artifacts from both campuses will be relocated to the new campus.

Dress code

Students at the combined school will continue to attend school in standardized dress.

Plans for the buildings

A new elementary building will be constructed at the current Montclair location on Broadmoor Dr. This new construction was approved by voters during the 2023 Bond election. When the building is complete, the school will open as Linda L. Griffin Elementary and all students will move to the new state-of-the-art facility. We anticipate the school will open for the 2027-28 school year.

The building that was formally Heather Glen will be left empty once the new school is open. Plans for the future of the building have not yet been determined.
