Monday, October 7 - Friday, October 11, 2024

Created by John F. Kennedy in 1962, National School Lunch Week highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch and how it helps inside and outside of the classroom. This year's theme is “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure", which highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success in and out of the classroom. The goal of this week is to challenge students and staff to eat healthy foods that will keep them powered throughout the day.

Campuses across GISD are celebrating with a variety of activities. Check with your campus for details on special menu items and theme days. #NSLW24

Note: We've moved our school lunch celebration up a week from its normal date due to Fall Break.

Dress up days

Get in the spirit of School Lunch Week by dressing up at school:

  • Monday: Sail into lunchtime by dressing like a Sailor.
  • Tuesday: Get on island time and wear your tacky tourist gear.
  • Wednesday: You're a Treasure! Shine bright in gold and silver clothing (no jewelry).
  • Thursday: It's a Pirate's Life, Captain Hook - dress as your favorite Peter Pan character.
  • Friday: Ahoy matey! Celebrate the treasure of good food by dressing like a pirate or wearing school spirit wear.
