Every year, the Garland ISD Salvation Army Angel adoption drive and the Noon Exchange of Garland’s Children’s Christmas Party make holiday wishes come true for hundreds of children during the season of giving. The generosity of the tri-cities is unmatched—even as our community continues to navigate an ongoing pandemic.

The GISD Research, Assessment & Accountability team organizes an annual Salvation Army Angel adoption campaign. Our charitable students and staff typically adopt 100-plus Angels, but in classic Garland ISD fashion, our team surpassed any of our expectations this season.

“After an unprecedented 2020, our students and staff showed up again in 2021 to take care of these Angles in a big way,” said District Testing Coordinator Courtney Clearfield. “We adopted all 300 Angels and even received more requests after reaching our limit. We look forward to continue supporting this organization next year and increasing the number of Angels we request to keep up with the demand.”

The Noon Exchange Club of Garland has prompted smiles and cheer in the district for 25 years. The organization celebrates its fundraising efforts at the Children’s Christmas Party, providing GISD students with special presents every year.

Typically supporting eight elementary schools with underprivileged populations, the 2021 celebration invited students from all 47 district elementary campuses. During the Dec. 8 bash, the big-hearted Club surprised 376 students with $35,000 worth in gifts. The specially invited guests were also treated to performances by Sachse and South Garland high school students.

GISD is honored to have the most giving community. Their generous efforts showcase #TheGISDEffect, and we hope to continue inspiring kindness across the nation.
