Custodian uses electrostatic disinfecting sprayer in cafeteria

As flu and cold cases rise across North Texas, Garland ISD remains committed to keeping students, staff, and visitors safe through its long-standing nightly disinfection practices. For many years, GISD has utilized advanced electrostatic sprayers to thoroughly and efficiently clean all campuses and facilities. This cutting-edge technology helps reduce the spread of illness by providing complete coverage in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other high-traffic areas. By maintaining these proactive measures, GISD continues to uphold its dedication to a safe and healthy learning environment.

Why Electrostatic Sprayers Are Essential in GISD:

1. Complete Surface Coverage

Electrostatic sprayers charge liquid disinfectant particles, allowing them to cling to surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas such as corners, crevices, and the undersides of objects. This ensures 360-degree coverage, unlike traditional spray-and-wipe methods that may miss spots. GISD utilizes Quat 256, a disinfectant that cleans, sanitizes, and eliminates harmful germs on all surfaces.

2. Increased Efficiency & Faster Application

  • Covers large areas quickly, including classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias.
  • Reduces disinfection time compared to manual wiping or pump sprayers.
  • Minimizes labor costs by enabling custodial staff to disinfect more space in less time.

3. Reduced Chemical Waste and Cost Savings

  • Uses less disinfectant while achieving superior coverage.
  • Reduces chemical runoff and overspray, making it a more eco-friendly solution.

4. Enhances Health and Safety

  • Helps prevent the spread of germs and viruses in high-traffic areas.
  • Limits direct contact with chemicals, reducing exposure risks for custodial staff.
  • Meets enhanced sanitation standards, especially during flu season or outbreaks.

5. Compliance with Cleaning Protocols

  • Ensures proper application of EPA-approved disinfectants, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Electrostatic spraying is mandatory every night at all district campuses and facilities until further notice.

Beyond nightly disinfection, everyone can help prevent illness. Students and staff are encouraged to wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, use hand sanitizer when soap isn't available, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when feeling unwell. These simple habits, combined with GISD's advanced cleaning efforts, help create a safer and healthier school environment for all.
