Choice of School and Magnet applications open for PreK-K
Families can now make their 2026-27 campus choices and magnet applications for prekindergarten and kindergarten from April 1-May 1. See the School Choice and Magnet Application Guide for details.
Note: All students entering Kindergarten are required to complete a Choice of School form. This ensures that all students, including those transitioning from our Pre-Kindergarten centers, have the opportunity to select their preferred campus. You will receive an email from Avela with the link to the form.
New to GISD? Pre-K and new kindergarten enrollees will receive the Choice of School email once your enrollment has been processed.

Our early childhood programs offer free, full-day pre-k and kindergarten education, led by certified teachers and designed to lay a strong academic and social foundation. The district provides specialized options such as dual-language instruction in Spanish and Vietnamese, Montessori magnet programs, and resources for families through the GISD Littles Club.

Magnet programs offer advanced academics and specialized learning opportunities for students at every level, from Pre-K through 12th grade. At the elementary level, offerings include Montessori, academies, MSTs, classical, and dual language programs. Each magnet program has unique criteria that students must meet to apply.

Switching is easy. Complete the online “Start the switch” form, and a team member will guide you through the enrollment steps.
Can my student transfer to Garland ISD in the middle of the school year?
Yes. Families may transfer at any time if space is available at the campus. GISD ensures a smooth transition so students can continue their coursework without interruption.
What academic support does GISD offer for new or transferring students?
Every student is paired with a counselor or academic advisor to review transcripts, align classes, and create a personalized learning plan.
How does Garland ISD support bilingual and dual-language learners?
Bilingual and multilingual students can participate in a variety of services and programs that will help them develop their academic and language skills in English, while continuing to develop their home language. Programs include ESL and one-way and two-way Dual Language Immersion.

Will my student receive transportation if we transfer to Garland ISD?
Transportation is available for students who live within designated zones or magnet programs. GISD also offers specialized transportation for certain transfer routes.
