We provide a variety of educational experiences for young children in our community. Our programming targets the fundamental stages of early childhood all while establishing strong family relationships that support foundational knowledge and skills to be curious, confident and successful learners.

Why early childhood education?

Did you know that 90% of your child's brain develops before the age of five? Early Childhood education allows for optimal learning to start your child’s educational career.

Our early childhood programs take advantage of this critical time to learn. We provide foundational education that helps prepare your child for elementary school. Garland ISD’s early childhood programs include:

  • Free full-day prekindergarten and kindergarten
  • Fully certified early childhood teachers
  • Dual language Spanish and Vietnamese at select campuses
  • Specialized Magnet Programs like Montessori
  • Tips for parents with children under 5 years old through the GISD Littles Club

Fostering development

Helping your child understand and use social skills, emotional understanding, and self-regulation along with academic knowledge can set your child up for success later in life. One way we encourage families to do this is by reading with their young children. Reading to babies, toddlers and older children helps cognitive development and vocabulary as well as grows their reading skills. When parents read to their children, they do better in school.

Fostering early literacy is one way you can help your children succeed later in life. See the TEA's Early Childhood website for more resources and tips on helping your child grow.

ECSE Prekindergarten Inclusion Program

Employees of Garland ISD can access free prekindergarten for their children through our ECSE Prekindergarten Inclusion Program. This program partners non-disabled children with children with disabilities for an inclusive classroom.
