    What is Title I?

    Title I is the name of a government program that gives additional money to qualifying schools based on the number of low-income families.

    All Title I schools in Garland ISD are schoolwide programs.  This means that funds may be combined with other funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school as well as to provide additional help for students who are struggling.

    How does our school receive Title I money?

    The federal government provides funding to each state, and each State Educational Agency distributes money to its school districts. How much money each school receives is determined by the number of low-income students attending that school.

    What do Title I programs offer?

    Title I programs may offer:

    • Additional teachers and aides
    • Opportunities for professional development for school staff
    • Extra time for teaching Title I students the skills they need
    • A variety of supplementary teaching methods
    • An individualized program for students
    • Additional teaching materials which supplement a student’s regular instruction
    • Parent involvement opportunities

    What is Title II?

    Title II federal funding provides school districts with money to improve teacher and principal quality.  Garland ISD uses Title II funds to provide professional development to teachers and principals and to provide mentoring and support for new teachers.

    What is Title III?

    Title III federal funding provides school districts with money to help children learn the English language and reach English proficiency so that they can meet the state academic achievement standards.  Garland ISD uses Title III funds for educational resources for students, support personnel to provide additional assistance and professional development for teachers.

    The Migrant Education Program

    This federal program helps migratory children overcome problems that result from repeated moves. Families who move across school district lines in search of temporary or seasonal work in fishing industries or agriculture may qualify for additional help at school.  Identification of qualifying students, aged 3-21, is essential in order to offer additional opportunities for learning and success in school.
