During this Special Board Meeting, the trustees toured two elementary schools to gain insight into the possibilities and considerations for the new elementary campuses planned for GISD in phase 1 of the bond timeline.

The first campus was John S. Bradfield Elementary School in Highland Park ISD. This school was designed by the architectural firm that will design the new Hillside/Kimberlin campus and was built on the site of an existing campus. One of the challenges of this tear-down and rebuild was the land provided limited space to construct a campus that could accommodate a larger student population.

The second campus was Buddy and Joni Minett Elementary School in Frisco ISD. This is a two-story design that works for the small footprints the new GISD elementary schools must maintain.

The tours included information on secure vestibules, community input, floor and wall coverings, storm shelters, green initiatives, specials rooms, learning pods and more.
