Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Understand our process for studying and improving student growth in academics and behavior.
Our district provides comprehensive ways to utilize systems, practices and data to improve student academic and behavioral growth. Systems and practices are based on student need, building a positive school-wide climate and culture.
To support these measures, each school in Garland ISD practices Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS creates safe and positive learning environments for all students where they can feel valued, connected and supported by caring adults in schools. Each school in Garland ISD has a designated PBIS team to support an environment conducive to learning. Schools concentrate efforts to teach, monitor and provide feedback to students about school expectations.
The PBIS framework also supports engagement with families and communities to create meaningful outcomes. Parents can support their child’s educational success at school by:
- Reinforcing expectations and character traits taught at school
- Recognizing your child when they meet expectations and perform well at school
- Encouraging your child to attend school regularly and on time
- Creating time to have meaningful conversations with your child about their behavior, academics and attendance in school
- Partnering with your school to promote your child success
- Communicating positively with your child’s school
