Special Education Bilingual Resource Teacher
Date Received

This month we recognize and celebrate the exceptional dedication and commitment of one of Garland ISD's finest educators. The "Going the Extra Mile" award is given to Beatris Guffey, a teacher whose actions and dedication embody the very essence of this accolade.

Ms. Guffey, a Special Education bilingual resource teacher at Bullock Elementary, is not just an educator but a beacon of inspiration. Her unwavering commitment to her students is evident in her countless hours at school, arriving early and staying late, ensuring that every child receives the best possible experience.

But what truly sets Ms. Guffey apart is her innate ability to adapt and innovate. Her co-workers say, “She understands that every child is unique and tailors her instruction to accommodate their individual learning styles. She constantly seeks new and effective teaching methods; when something doesn't work, she's the first to acknowledge it and pivot to a better approach. Her classroom is a testament to her dedication, filled with various seating options purchased from her own pocket to ensure that every student feels comfortable and engaged.”

Her co-workers go on to say… “This year, in particular, Beatris has exemplified what it means to go the extra mile. While already managing her regular responsibilities, she has taken on the added role of covering for maternity leave on campus. She has seamlessly stepped into the shoes of two teachers, ensuring that all resource students have a schedule, assisting substitutes with lesson plans, and meeting deadlines with precision. And she has done all this with unparalleled professionalism and grace.”

Beatris, your dedication, passion, and resilience are truly commendable. You are not just teaching subjects; you are shaping futures. On behalf of Garland ISD, I extend our deepest gratitude for your tireless efforts and congratulate you on this well-deserved recognition.
