EB Social Work Services
Our district provides social work support to Emergent Bilingual students, families, and staff.
Emergent Bilingual (EB) students, families and school staff have access to social work services in Garland ISD. Our district works with a licensed mental health provider who:
- Introduces students and families to formal and informal community and school resources
- Connects families to the EB program, which helps students learn and adjust to school
- Makes plans for the schools, students, and parents with other staff district-wide
- Helps provide evidence-based behavioral, social-emotional and mental health services

Available services
Students
- Provide crisis intervention
- Develop plans for improving academic success
- Assist with conflict resolution and anger management
- Help students develop social skills
- Build the student's understanding of self and others
- Identify barriers to learning in the home, school or community and help reduce them
Families
- Meet with the family to discuss concerns affecting the student’s education
- Support parents as they help their student adjust to school
- Reduce family stress to allow the student to thrive in and outside of school
- Connect parents to programs available to students with special needs
- Help parents use school and community resources
Staff and teachers
- Help staff understand the factors that affect student performance and behavior (such as cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.)
- Assess students with mental health concerns
- Provide direct support to staff
- Help staff to meet the education goals of diverse learners
- Connect teachers to or provide them with the resources they need
