Free Dance Clinics for 6th-11th Grade
Are you in middle or high school and want to learn to dance? Or do you want to get ready for tryouts in drill team, magnet dance, cheer, step team, color guard or world dance?
Each high school is offering a free dance clinic. If you are interested in attending, please register using the link below.
You can attend one or all 7 sessions. Beginners welcome.

Middle school dance
Middle school dance is offered through our Classical Magnet program for middle school. Students can choose dance as part of their curriculum.
High school dance
GISD offers four different levels of dance instruction at the
high school level.
- Dance I: This first level provides students with the fundamental skills and knowledge of dance as an art form
- and lifetime activity.
- Dance II: Lessons will progress into more complex dance movements found in modern dance, folk/ethnic dance, jazz and/or tap. Students are also provided with opportunities to apply imagery concepts to groups and individuals projects associated with all types of dance and art forms.
- Dance III: Students continue with more advanced concepts and explores choreography and manipulation of body, space, force, and time. Improvisation, informal presentations and critiquing are also explored.
- Dance IV: This class focuses on advanced training in classical dance forms, choreography, production, performance, and dance-related careers.
All of our dance teachers will be evaluated by Dance Educators Assessment of Learning (DEAL).
Folklorico
Folklorico celebrates Mexican culture through dance and music. Students learn traditional Mexican dances and perform in district and community events.
Students in Folklorico:
- learn about Mexican culture and history
- develop their dancing talents
- gain cultural awareness and pride
- teach the public about Hispanic culture

Competitions
Our students test their merit in competitions throughout the year. Performances can be seen at:
