Translation and Interpretation Services (TIS) is dedicated to breaking language barriers and ensuring equal access to education and services for all students and families. Our comprehensive services include written document translation in Vietnamese and Spanish for districtwide communications and verbal interpretation in over 75 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL). We offer assistance through in-person, over-the-phone or video conference methods.

As our GISD community grows more diverse, we remain committed to fostering efficient communication between parents and campuses. Request interpretation services

You have the right to an interpreter at no cost to you. Please print or show the I Need An Interpreter card at your campus to request free over-the-phone interpretation services.

Services for special education

You have the right to request an interpreter for your child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting and to request your child's IEP documents be fully translated into a language you can clearly understand. Contact your child's school to request the translation of the IEP documents.

Translation services for special education

Our services adhere to Garland ISD Board Policy covering special education and IEP's, and federal and state law regulations, which include Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education offer resources for Limited English Proficient (LEP) parents and guardians, as well as schools and school districts that communicate with them. For more information see the resources below.
